Something old, Something new

I got up with the call to prayers at 0500, same as last year.  I managed to get a few things done before it got light and then headed out for a run on the air strip.  They have cleared off the brush a lot more than last year (or maybe it died back).  I decided not to push too hard, so I only did 7 km today.  I will work up to more next week.  I don’t mind running in circles so much, but I think the flies remember me from last year!

After the run and a shower, I caught up with Anne-Sophie to do rounds.  The have some new equipment in the nursery – to check the oxygen level in the blood of premature infants.  There are 2 babies in the nursery right now that weigh about 800g (under 2 lb) so the equipment is coming in very handy.  Before rounding in each room Anne-Sophie prayed – in Hausa! If I have a chance I may be able to learn some more (or re-learn what I learned last year)

When I was here last year they had just started building a place to put their new generators.  Now the building is complete, and they are expecting the new generators next week.  It will be nice not to have power interruptions, especially in the OR.  I am told their may be less OR time next week because of having to hook up the new generators.

New Generator Building

1 Corinthians 3:10 English Standard Version (ESV)

According to the grace of God given to me, like a skilled  master builder I laid a foundation, and someone else is building upon it. Let each one take care how he builds upon it.
