Last Minute

So I am at the airport now and limited in what I can do.  Yesterday however was a different story.  I got up early to try to get everything done in the day.  Unfortunately I still forgot to get a permission slip to the OR for someone who wants to observe the surgeons at work - My apologies SS - I will get this done when I get back.  I did manage to get all the surgeries done and even got called back for an emergency cesarean section.  I have handed all that over now, and they are in good hands.  Then I went home and packed up my clothes including my OR scrubs, my electronics including an unlocked phone for Niger and my laptop, took my first Malarone pill (for malaria).  Had a lovely dinner with Sylvia (thanks again for the scrumptious pulled pork), and headed out..... And then headed back because I forgot the new phone I had to install at my Dad's place when I got there.  With that collected I had an uneventful drive to Vancouver and a great visit with my dad, setting up his new phone and talking about my Sister's move to Australia.  Dad drove me out to the airport nice and early and my bag is checked all the way through to Niamey.
Some other last minute things that God has taken care of for me are interesting.  There is something you can spray on your clothes to protect you from Mosquitoes called Permethrin.  It used to be available in Canada but apparently recently the manufacturer stopped making it/importing it.  I tried to find it where I had before and it was all sold out.  Then I was at Minter Gardens getting some other stuff for the back yard and came across 12 bottles of the stuff!  So My clothes are all properly treated - and if anyone needs any just look for it with the insect sprays at Minter's  There is a picture of the bottle in my blog from last year here.
Then there was the matter of the Car parts -  One of the teachers at a local school and needed some car part - oil pump, knock sensor and cam shaft sensor.  She asked if I could take it in my carry on and was planning to send it to me through my US address in Ship happens.  The problem was by Sunday (Oct 29th) I still had not heard that they had arrived.  It turns out that there was a mix up about how they were labelled and they HAD arrived, but no one knew who they were for.  I was able to run across the border on Monday at lunch, find the packages, and had a very pleasant conversation with a very helpful Canadian Border Services guard who let me back in to Canada with the parts in spite of the fact that I did not have the proper receipt and had to make an educated guess as to their cost  (I was close).  God is good - all the time.  So now here I sit, finishing some office paperwork (the anachronistic name is not lost on me), turning on my out of office reply on the email, blogging (of course) and waiting for my plane.  I have a short layover in Toronto, and another short layover in Paris (Hi Carys - I will wave from the plane) and then on to Niamey.  I will likely stay in a guest house there overnight and fly out to Galmi the next day.  Not sure when my next blog will be, there is no internet at the guest house.  Maybe after I am settled in Galmi.  Until then  God bless.

    be strong and take heart
    and wait for the Lord.
