So the Lift team left yesterday, and Hausa Church was back
closer to normal today. Which means there wasn’t any interpretation in to English. But as we all know, most pastors repeat themselves
several times, so I was able to follow
along with out too much difficulty (They repeat themselves because repetition
is good for learning!). The message was
on Matthew 25:1-13 and a reminder to always be prepared. A good lesson for here. After Church, the Hospital Dentist Hsun Tau
Chow wanted to take a picture of the whole congregation so that he could put it
on their new song books. It was a
perfect opportunity for me to take a picture as well. Hsun Tau and Yook Wai are from
Singapore. Yook Wai is a pharmacist
working in Galmi. She also helps us with
the Chemotherapy for our patients.
Hsun Tau is also a botanist after a fashion. He tells me those funny trees that look like
something out of a Dr. Seuss book are called a Desert Rose. And apparently the seeds or fruit or
whatever is poisonous. Good to know. They have some growing around their place as
well. Hsun Tau seems to have quite the
garden growing and offered me some guavas and some plantains (they might have
been bananas). I already have enough
food in my fridge so I declined. They
leave on Wednesday back to Singapore for a month, so I guess they are trying to
empty out their fridge and cupboards.
I went by Susanne’s house after church and she shared a whole
bunch of pictures with me. She works
with the Orthopedic surgeon so a lot of them are not in my area. She did however take a picture of me doing a caesarean. I think I may have mentioned that I had an
audience for that, and she took pictures of them as well. So here is a picture of me actually working
in Galmi – just in case anyone thought it was a hoax.
Matthew 25:13
Therefore keep watch, because you do not know the day or the hour.
