Sorry for the late post. The internet connection was out.
Wherever you are as a Canadian, today is still Remembrance
Day. Grandfather Robertson was in the
Second World War (he passed away when I was young) as was his brother, so there
are some direct links to this day (Veterans Day to my American Colleagues) in my
family. It is a sombre occasion, and
back at home I would be at a cenotaph remembering those who fought for our
freedom in all the wars before and since.
And I would be wearing a poppy (which is kind of a Canadian thing I know
but that’s OK). This Remembrance Day I
am also remembering those that put their lives in harms way to keep us safe
such as Constable John Davidson from the neighbouring town of Abbotsford. My condolences to his family, friends and
co-workers. As I have friends in Law
Enforcement I am always keenly aware of the dangers they face on a regular
basis in their jobs.
Here in Galmi we will mark Remembrance Day as well. And then we will go on and celebrate the
lives that have been protected by those we remember. There is a 3 Km fun run today. Normally I would take part in it, but I have
not been able to run lately due to some pulled muscles, so I will be support
staff for the event. There are age
categories up to 50, and male and female groups in each age group. There will also be some random prizes handed
out and fellowship afterwards.
Well the race was a rousing success with good representation
from around the world. Our Orthopedic
surgeon was the Doctor on call for the race, but he claims that his 70+ year
old knees won’t let him compete anymore, so he was on a bicycle. It was a bright sunny day for the event
without a cloud in the sky (like yesterday, and the day before, and every day I
have been here). The temperature was a
cool 22 degrees Celsius and the wind had not yet picked up to it’s full force.
Well the internet is down again, so I might not be able to
post this until tomorrow. That’s OK
“There’s a wireless and lots of books” … actually, there’s just lots of
books. If you don’t know where the quote
comes from ask a friend, or ask me when I get back. Oh, by the way, the winner of the race did it
in just over 10 minutes. That seemed
fast to me, so being the OCD personality that I am I had to pace it out with my
GPS watch. Lets just say the pace was
definitely under a 7 minute mile.
Hebrews 12:1
Therefore since we are surrounded by such a great cloud of
witnesses, let us throw off everything that hinders and the sin that so easily
entangles, and let us run with perseverance the race marked out for us.
